Modern Foreign languages

The aims of teaching and learning in Modern Foreign Languages are to develop pupils’ skills in their understanding, speaking, reading and writing of a new language, and to develop their intercultural awareness.

At Ling Moor, we focus on French, which is taught throughout Key Stage Two. Pupils learn through a range of motivating activities, including hearing French spoken by native speakers, playing games, singing and reading books in French. Children also enjoy applying their skills throughout the day, for example by answering the register in French. In Year Six, pupils have the opportunity to participate in a residential visit to France.

The National Curriculum programmes of study are fully covered by our MFL curriculum. Pupils are assessed in their skills of understanding, speaking, reading and writing French on an ongoing basis.
