It is important for children to be able to understand the past and take lessons from people, place and events in History. With a secure knowledge of the past it enables them to better understand our future.

History is taught in a way that motivates pupils, stimulating their interest and curiosity in the subject. Pupils learn through a wide range of experiences such as using artefacts, reading, drama, conducting research, going on visits and talking to visitors.

Time periods and events in history are taught as topics and children learn about when things happened, including in relation to other time periods and events.

The learning of key historical knowledge and skills provides an opportunity for children to apply their mathematical and literacy learning.
